Year work performed
| General Project Description
- Light industrial/storage facility
- Method used: Dry mixing
- Total meters: 35,000
- Col. diameter: 600 mm
- Average depth: 2-10 meters
- Binder type: Cement
- Binder content: 120 kg/m3
- Column shear strength: 150 kPa
- Installation rate: 600 meters/shift. The low production was due to a packed sandlayer of 2 meters at the surface which necessitated tooling replacement up to three times per shift.

Detailed Project Description
The Phu My 3 combined cycle power plant is located in southern Vietnam.
The ground improvement work was needed in a switch yard area.
Cement columns of the dry mix method was chosen for this project to improve the soft clay.
Overlying the soft clay was 2 meters of packed sand, slowing down production and increasing wear on the tooling.
|
Soil conditions
- Soft, silty clay
- Undrained shear strength: 10-15 kPa
- Natural water content: 70%
- Depth of soft clay: 10 m
- 2 meters of packed sand overlaying the clay
| Design
- Three different replacement ratios: 25, 30, and 37%
- Design ground pressure: 50 kPa
|
Technical results
- Average settlement measurements at five different locations at full load: 4.5 cm
